Since 1967, the International Waterbird Census has recorded around 1.9 billion individual waterbirds at wetlands around the world. These counts, repeated year after year, have created one of the most valuable long-term datasets on waterbirds globally. 🌎
This information helps scientists understand which populations are stable, which are increasing, and which are declining. It also helps identify emerging pressures, including habitat loss, climate change and disease, so that conservation action can be better targeted.
This 60th anniversary is a celebration of the people and birds that have shaped one of the most influential biodiversity monitoring efforts ever created. By supporting #IWC60, you help ensure that waterbirds and the flyways they depend on continue to be monitored, understood, and protected worldwide.
